PC's are highly configurable flexible machines and there in lies the root of many problems. Unlike most
other equipment, each time you add software or hardware you change the machine. Although it should,
removing the new item does not guarantee a return to the state prior to the item being added. Whereas
with your car you can remove the furry dice and no-one will be any the wiser, on a PC any hardware
or software nearly always leaves a remnant tucked away somewhere on the hard drive. Unlike most
equipment shutting them down and starting them again does not always clear the problem. It's
surprisingly easy to get them into an unusable state. Just to add to the difficulties not all
PC software can be put on all PCs and not all PC hardware (even when it fits) can be put into
all PCs.
Some problems are very simple and some are rather tricky. If you can't solve it yourself then you
need a person who can. What may be simple to me is often insurmountable to almost everyone else. No
matter how hard or simple your problem is you are probably not the first and are unlikely to be
the last. There's no point keeping a very expensive doorstop because your too embarrassed seek help
for what might turn out to be a cable has fallen out.
It's a bit of a minefield, luckily for you I know where most of the mines have been placed and I am pretty good at locating the others. Make your problem my problem.
